I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended and contributed to the discussion and voting. I thank those who allowed their names to be put forward for election as members of the Select Vestries and congratulate those who were elected for the forthcoming year. I would also like to congratulate those who were elected as Parochial Nominators and representatives to the Diocesan Synod to serve for the next three years. The results of those elections are on the church noticeboards and in this newsletter and I look forward to working alongside these people in the year ahead.

We live at a time when many voluntary organisations are finding it hard to get people who will take on very necessary and important administrative roles. Fortunately, this is not currently the case in this parish, but if we are not vigilant, there is always the danger that the bulk of responsibility will be left to rest on relatively few shoulders.

On Sunday 28th May we will be holding our Parish Barbeque after services that day. As usual it will be in the grounds of the Canon Packham Hall and we anticipate a sunny day and warm temperatures! Shirley Clarke is heading up a committee that is organising this event. Please get your tickets promptly as it helps greatly with the planning and catering. They are available from the churchwardens in each church as well as from Aoife Bhreatnach. Further information is available from the posters on display in the churches and from the parish office. In recent years, this has proved to be a very enjoyable social occasion which brings people from our four different churches together. I hope it will be well supported again this year.

Finally, I end by congratulating Sabrina Cooke-Nivet, one of our parishioners and a diocesan lay reader, on the news that she has been accepted for training for the ordained ministry. She hopes to begin her studies at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute in the autumn. We are delighted that she is embarking on this next stage of her Christian ministry and we will continue to support her over the next few years of academic and pastoral training.

Yours in Christ, Adrian.

St Luke’s School Notes. During the last few weeks our pupils have been involved in a huge variety of activities demonstrating what a broad education our present generation are so fortunate to receive. 4th Class are working on STEAM engineering projects under the direction of Wesley Bateman, Jake Hanafin represented us in the Eason’s Spelling Bee and got through to the final 15, 3rd Class visited the Lifetime Lab to take part in the Marine Explorers’ Programme and our swimmers came 2nd in the Inter-Schools’ Gala. The main event of this term was our triennial school performance “Destination Imagination”. Our pupils entertained full houses of parents, grandparents and friends in the Canon Packham Hall for two nights with a variety of song, dance, drama, and poetry. Each class produced their own item. The performances from Junior Infants right up to 6th Class were superb. Great credit is due to the pupils, teachers, support staff and parents for all their co-operation and hard work in putting a show of this calibre together. Congratulations to all involved.

Easter General Vestry Elections

Douglas Union of Parishes

Churchwardens and Glebewardens

Marmullane Incumbent’s Churchwarden Shirley Clarke-Swanton

Vestry Churchwarden Alfred Hosford

Douglas Incumbent’s Churchwarden Tom Chambers

Vestry Churchwarden Liam Cotter

Blackrock Incumbent’s Churchwarden Jean Wade

Vestry Churchwarden David Kerr

Incumbent’s Glebewarden Mervyn Hosford

Vestry Glebewarden Benny Hayes

Select Vestry – John Kershaw (Hon.
