The author was born in Cork in 1928 and was ordained in the Church of Ireland. He has served in Canada for most of his ministry and is a well-known author, preacher and hymn writer.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CAROL FOR THE CHILDREN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jesus, babe of Bethlehem\u2019s manger,<\/p>\n<p>Helpless in your newborn hour,<\/p>\n<p>Born in days of death and danger,<\/p>\n<p>Herod\u2019s hatred, Roman power;<\/p>\n<p>We who watch as countless children<\/p>\n<p>Daily die in cruel ways,<\/p>\n<p>Trapped in endless human conflicts;<\/p>\n<p>Help us not to turn our gaze.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Orphaned child in Old Aleppo,<\/p>\n<p>Wandering in its shattered streets:<\/p>\n<p>Lead her to some sheltering haven<\/p>\n<p>Where with care and love she meets.<\/p>\n<p>Freezing child in storm-tossed waters,<\/p>\n<p>Watching all around him drown.<\/p>\n<p>Newborn child of the Rohingya<\/p>\n<p>Crying in a burning town.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Children, too, in every city<br \/>\nKnown to us across this land,<br \/>\nLiving, without love or pity,<br \/>\nLives we barely understand.<\/p>\n<p>Children lonely, unprotected;<\/p>\n<p>Children mentally confused;<\/p>\n<p>Children, some by drugs affected;<\/p>\n<p>Children cruelly abused.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Jesus, whom we know as loving,<\/p>\n<p>Lord of all things good and true;<\/p>\n<p>Show us that when children suffer<\/p>\n<p>Serving them is serving you.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus, Prince of Peace in glory,<\/p>\n<p>Guide us that our wars may cease.<\/p>\n<p>Help us change our human story.<\/p>\n<p>Grant us wisdom.\u00a0 Bring us peace.<\/p>\n<p>Herbert O\u2019Driscoll, \u00a92017<\/p>\n<p><em>Metre:\u00a0 87 87 D, Suggested tune:\u00a0 \u201cAbbot\u2019s Leigh\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This carol was written in November 2017 with all children who are suffering in the world today in mind.
